Seek out distant horizons, and cherish those you attain
Pou Horizons aims to foster systems-focused solutions by creating conditions that allow kaikōkiri to envision and build alternative futures. This effort includes amplifying community voices to drive transformational change, recognizing that diverse narratives challenge dominant systems. By centring lived experiences and embracing complexity, emergence, and uncertainty, J R McKenzie Trust will evolve alongside systems change, adopting a holistic approach to address the interconnected challenges we face.
Funding Principles
Supporting the Conditions for Emergent Futures
Growing and protecting the capacity to imagine, create and practice alternative futures
Place-based approaches to systems change
Growing the capacity of futures change makers
Supporting the conditions and infrastructure that will enable transformational change to emerge. Pou Horizons will engage with groups seeking to integrate new and known (indigenous knowledge) systems that support communities to imagine and practice a more desirable future that prioritises wellbeing for people and place.
Shifting the Power by Changing the Narrative
Support transformational and counter narratives that centre the voices of those with lived experience
Growing a more diverse and inclusive pool of storytellers that champion social justice
Supporting an infrastructure for collective sensemaking
By funding knowledgeholders, storytellers, narrative strategists and communication capacity, we expand the imagination of what is possible. Pou Horizons will seek to support work that centres lived-experience narratives and counter narratives that challenge dominant assumptions. Systems dont change because the story is told once, they change because the story becomes normal.
